i got an instant message from an interesting man the other day. i was away and when i answered he was away. He responded and then i lost his name. Drat, we could have had some nice convo.

Master was home again last night. i do like that, but it makes an awfully long two days for Him. He gets in late, and has to leave early the next morning. i try to make the morning wake-up worth His while. =) And i fixed His breakfast and packed Him a goodie bag for the trip back.

Seems the man who was the driver in the accident a month or so back has just about everything taken care of. He was way up north for a couple of weeks, more like three, and had nothing but good things to say about the eperience. He liked the head of the warehouse, told Master that guy was the greatest. The warehouse has military who actually come in and do work. One Sgt came in one morning and asked what he could do. The manager said they needed some shelves. The Sgt went on scrounge patrol, and by the end of the day had some decent warehouse shelving in place.

Master was very concerned that the driver would just disappear, not go to court because he is a TCN. At first Master was concerned that he would return from up north and then go straight on vacation, which would forfeit the company 2M ID that was posted as bond for him to be able to work up north. When Master came home last night He said that it didn't matter that He left our place at 5:30, He and the other guy didn't get on the road to the warehouse until after 7. Master said He banged on the apt. door, and called on all the phones He had numbers to, and was afraid the kid had absconded during the night. Master finally got hold of one of the men from the office here, and got a key to the company apt. The kid was dead asleep. Master rousted him out and they got up north.

The Iraqi warehouse manager took the driver to court in plenty of time. Seems the one who got hit couldn't be bothered to show up. The judge sent the police to the man's house, his wife said he was someplace else, out of the city. All the while Kassem and James were drinking tea with the judge. The police officer came back and reported. James has to go back again some time in the near future, but it will be at his convenience. The judge said the other driver knew that yesterday was the court date. If he couldn't be bothered to show when it was on the calendar, he will darn well show when James has the time. The judge will send the police after him and escort him to the court. Things haven't been concluded yet, but i am sure that James has a much better feeling about the whole thing. TCNs get such shit, simply because of who they are. It's more than i want to rant on right now. But i do value the fact that i am white. It shouldn't be this way, but it is, and i know how lucky i am.

i got a scare the other day. i went to get gas in emerson, and came upon a check point. Generally i don't even have to turn down my window, i just show my documents and the officer waves me right through. i never mind check points. To me that says the Kuwait security forces are doing their work, trying to keep the ouontry safe, but that's another story. The other day, i had my documents at the window, prepared to just roll on by, but the officer put up his hand. i turned down the window and with a questioning look on my face, handed the docs to him. He looked them over, and then asked to see my registration paper for emerson. By now i'm a bit concerned. i know i have nothing to fear, but i couldn't figure out what was going on. i was polite, i smiled, mumbled something about having a good day and all. He said nothing. He looked over at the officer standing a couple of feet away, and motioned him to come over. Now i'm really curious. What is going on? The man with my papers looks at me and in all seriousness says the other man is looking for an English teacher, and would i be interested in taking a private student. The first words out of my mouth were "YOU stopped me for THAT???...fortunately the incredulity/near anger was lost on them both. The second man smiled a bit sheepishly, apparently he had no idea of what was going on. He asked where i taught, i told him. The first guy asked what campus, i told him. The second didn't seem to want to travel that far. i smiled and said if he ever showed up in my classroom i would be happy to have him as a student. The first one shook my hand, very unusual, and sent me on my way. i think my pulse rate and b/p were finally back to normal about 7:30 that night.

For all the bad press people of Islam get, and for all the ranting i do about Kuwaitis in general, that day was proof positive that they are just like anybody else. They are friendly and kind and not above playing a small practical joke on the unsuspecting. At least neither of them said i reminded them of their mothers.

Today it is into the office to get first day copying ready for Imtiyaze. i have a lot, it is a three hour class, and i don't want him to be inundated with 'must have it done by 10' at 9:55 on Saturday. i also have to try to straighten out the vacation mess. i have not been reimbursed for the car, the apt, or the ticket yet. i may have trouble with the ticket. i am not looking forward to that.
