Eileen and i took a road trip yesterday. She goes back to work on Tuesday and Den has a procedure to repair a hernia today. He will be off work until Tuesday, so yesterday was our last chance for a day together.

We took some papers to her ortho doc to be filled out so she doesn't lose and seniority for these last couple of weeks. She's had so much time off this year, she's run out of vacation and sick leave. This passed two weeks has been without pay. She will lose seniority days if she doesn't have the doc's approval for this time off. There is no problem getting the approval, the bone in her ankle is still not completely healed. It was just a matter of getting the papers to him and then getting them back to work.

Then we went for the mandatory pedi/manicure. i like the woman i go to in Kuwait better, and she is about the same price. Oh well.

Then we went to Gays Mills, Wisconsin for apples. It was a nice drive. i miss the green of Iowa when i'm not here, but sometimes, even after being here for nearly 6 weeks, all that green can be overwhelming. Got to the orchard and discovered they didn't take credit cards. We checked our finances and told the woman running the register when she got to 15$ less than what we had together. Made it by $1.48.
Bought 10 pounds of sunrise apples, lunch box size. Just right for eating out of hand. Not too big, not too small. Got some pretty stationary from the half price bin in case i need a b'day gift next year. Bought some Amish candies, apple cider doughnuts, some mulled cider mix, potpourri, and carmel popcorn. Brought everything edible home but two pieces of candy and a piece of string cheese.

We stopped at the Mount Sterling cheese factory and bought the last packages of cheese curds and string cheese. Drove along the Miss and passed where the cottage used to be. Got stopped at a road work sight and had a nice convo with the road worker. Had to wait about 5 min for the traffic from the other direction to get passed. It was a beautiful stopping spot, so we didn't mind.

Took the 'back way' home. That is, the two-lane blacktops instead of the main highways. Get to see much more interesting stuff that way. Got home before dark, which is unusual, but she wanted to be there for Den last night. He is a whiner extraordinaire when it comes to medical things. i don't blame him, he was very young when he had the 5ple bypass, and it's about time for that to be considered old.

Today is a 'rest day', not much going on. i did get to talk with Master for about an hour. That's about 3x as long as i have talked to Him all summer.
