There is excitement toward Fahaheel from us. Sirens from police cars, ambulances and fire trucks are all converging about a quarter mile from us. The boom of the explosion shook the windows of the apartment. I don't see any fire or see or smell smoke. Perhaps some one of the special forces set down the grenade while he searched for the pin he accidentally pulled out. Nothing on the news, it happened about 15 minutes ago.

Master's daughter sent a map. I can't figure out how to put it into my journal, or post to the group. I'd like to show where we are in relationship to the fighting. Perhaps that would soothe other's nerves. I just haven't figured it out. The map is an excellent one, unfortunately it is very large, and if I small it down some detail is too small to be seen. I also haven't figured out how to add text to show where we are.

There seems to be much more traffic today than yesterday. I suppose we have an inaccurate sense of safety being this far away from the northern border. Every once in awhile I can hear the planes as they fly over from the ships out in the Gulf. I guess they are war planes that I am hearing, most of the flights have been cancelled out of the airport. D didn't get out last night, he got to the airport and was told there was a 24 hour delay. He is going back tonight to try again, but he doesn't hold much hope for getting out. He really wasn't so concerned about being here that he had to leave, he just didn't want to be sitting around with nothing to do while the university is closed.

One of the things that bothers me is that I only hear the all clear siren. I have not yet heard the siren that warns of an attack.

It is beautiful out tonight. We took the dog out early again, and had a leisurely dinner on the patio. We saw at least one commercial airplane flying, so I guess the airport is still open.

D called me later today. He said he got as far as being on the plane. He was in the passenger only area and saw the flight staff go on to the plane. Then the passengers were allowed to be on the plane. They sat for about an hour with nothing happening, then the flight staff left the plane. The passengers waited around on the plane a bit and then D finally got off and went to the transit area. He asked what was going on, seems the pilot forgot to come to work yesterday so there would be a 24 hr delay. I didn't ask D if he asked when they were going to let the rest of the passengers in on the delay or if KA was just expecting the passengers to wait patiently on the plane until tonight.

Apparently a patriot missile misfired last night. Family members, don't read the next sentences. It seems there was a snafu and the missile was launched. About 10:30 last night there was a bang, shook the windows of the apartment. Seems the missile went off and was killed and exploded at Shuaiba, about 5 km from where we are. That is something I hope doesn't happen again. I don't like things that go BIG BOOM in the night.

I thought we were seeing smoke from the fires in Iraq, but it seems that smoke hasn't come here yet. Tonight is quite clear. Too bad we are in such a tense place I would love to sleep out on the patio. The air is clean and the sky is so beautiful. If I am good, Master said we could go out tonight and listen for the missiles sent from the ships in the Gulf on their way to Baghdad. He is just too, too romantic.
