jdmkleinIt is cold again today. We have the heat on. Remember, cold is relative.
Yesterday when we were coming off the desert, i saw a dead camel laying alongside the road. Strange. Must have been hit by a car, it was laying in a pool of blood. i asked Master what a camel costs here. He said must be pretty expensive because he knew a guy who worked at the desert airbase ran into a herd of sheep and ended up paying about $2000/dead sheep. i figure a camel is about three maybe four times larger than a sheep....mighty expensive camel. And then you got to add in the cost of repairing the vehicle that hit the camel. Could bankrupt a person.
May be hiring the wife of a high up at the embassy. i think it's a good idea. As long as she comes into work i know we are safe. i'm sure the embassy will send out family and non-essential staff at the first sign of trouble. i'm a bit pissed that i have to go into the office on a vacation day to interview her, but if i want her to start in February, i guess it has to happen.
The Dean is doing pretty ok, i've heard. Last week he had balloon cathaterization. Unfortunately he wants the new course in place in February. The first unit is nearly complete, well more complete than last week, but i'm beginning to get nervous. i don't see how it is going to come together. And we have two new people who have yet to believe what us 'old timers' say about students and their capabilities and how the whole univeristy works. They want things that are not acceptable or workable. In the real world maybe, but not here.
Stupid Admissions screwed up royally and i am left holding the bag. The Admissions office allowed students who were registered for one course to take another. 60% of them failed. Now, the Dean of Admin wants me to allow them to take another exam to better their grade. The decision has been made. i will do it. The Dean of Admin wants the exam that will be easiest for them to pass. i will have an exam for the course they have already taken and an exam for the course they were supposed to be in, which is a lower level. The students can chose the exam they want to take. They will also sign a paper which indicates they realize they will be awared the grade they get on this exam. Whichever one it is. i am so sick and tired of cleaning up upper admin. messes. Wasta sucks, why don't they realize this?
