No great event happened today. Life is mundane to say the least. i did talk to Son for a bit. He and his spouse are on their first ever vacation as grown-up married people without kids. Sounds like they are having a grand time. Will be home next weekend. And i will be home the following weekend, i think that is how it works.

Everyone is asking me if i'm getting excited about going home. The truth is, no. i want to be home, but i am not looking forward to the plane trip. Air travel may be more convenient, but i believe traveling by train and boat was much more comfortable. At least you can get up and walk around on a train or a boat. The best you can hope for in a plane is a trip to the loo without stepping on someone's toes. And that's only if you get an aisle seat. If you are on the inside, forgadaboutit. The way the passengers are crammed into planes these days, you are lucky if you can go to the loo at all.

i wish i had Dorothy's ruby slippers. i couldclose my eyes, click my heels together and say there's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home. When i opened my eyes, i'd be in Kansas for sure, but that's only a short drive from Iowa. And i could stop at every park and service station on the way to stretch my back and legs.

My back is not getting any better from the little fiasco in the desert a couple weeks ago. i don't know how i am going to endure the 36 hours from Kuwait to New York. i may barely be able to get off the plane when it arrives in JFK. At least i'll have a whole day to be flat on my back in the hotel.

It's time for bed.
