i got home late from work today. Everytime i tried to leave a student walked in. What can i say, i'm a sucker for a student who needs/wants help.

Got up early, early this morning, 4:15 to ride. i thought Ramadan began today, so did a lot of other people. Surprise, surprise, the Saudis didn't observe the moon, and since the Kuwaitis ....no, no, won't go there. Ramadan starts tonight. Back to the ride...since Ramadan is the month of fasting, a bit like Lent, i thought i'd give up an hour's sleep three mornings a week for the month and ride. It isn't all that difficult to do, once i haul my butt out of bed, it's the getting up that is hard.

The weather is beautiful, and that time of the day is peaceful. If i time it just right, i can be on the Gulf Road just as the sun comes over the horizon, and if i am really good, i can time it so the sun is coming up and the dhows are going out. A very romantic picture. Exercise in the morning just makes the whole day go well. i have no worries about traffic and i can get a bit meditative, let my mind go where it will. This morning it went nearly empty, a rarity.

Worked like a mad dog today, had to take my laptop in because my uni computer up and died yesterday. i hated to leave it in the office, but even worse i hated the thought of trudging it out to the car, and then up to the apartment, only to turn around tomorrow morning and do the same things in reverse.

When i got home, Master had decided it was time for a desert picnic, so we left for the dog run early and ate dinner tonight out under the high power lines. We would go away from them, but that is where the hard pack is, and i have told Master over and over and over again, i don't push, hard limit, etc., etc., etc. He must believe me. He hasn't gotten stuck but once.

Dinner was nice, nothing special, but i could feel the stress and tension wash off my shoulders as the sun went down. It was quiet, and cool, and the company was fine. Even Max had fun, i think. We went to a new part of the desert and there were so many smells to be smelled.

He is such a funny dog, very submissive to both Master and me, but there isn't an animal in the desert that scares him. This evening two, not feral dogs, but not pets either, came chasing after him. He turned and gave them a run for their money, he chased them back to the yard they had come from. He wasn't aggressive to them or anything, just wanted to let them know they were in his desert. They played chase for a bit, but when it got time to leave, he came galloping back to the car. Now he is resting after a hard day in the desert.

Name the four seasons, Kathy was asked. The brilliant six year old responded, "Salt, pepper, vinegar, and mustard."
