Woke up this morning the sun was shining, the sky was blue, the dirt was gone from the air. It is amazing how different the world looks without the dust filter. Max must have gotten confused, he didn't realize today is Friday, he thought it was Saturday. That's the only reason I can think for him coming in at 5:35 this morning looking for someone to play with him.

We went to Sears yesterday and got another pair of curtains for the front room window. It is about 20 feet wide and we were about 75 inches short on curtains. We've had the drapes for over 4 years and really didn't expect of find anything that matched exactly but were willing to take a close match. We found the exact same drape. The only difference is the new ones haven't been through a sandstorm, so they are a bit brighter. On the window, the difference is not noticeable. We hung them this morning.

This is from one of the teachers.

CNN/Reuters:

News reports have just filtered out that US forces have swooped on an Iraqi
Primary School and detained 6th Grade teacher Mohammed Al-Hazar.

Sources indicate that, when arrested, Al-Hazar was in possession of a ruler,
a protractor, a set square and a calculator.

US President George W Bush argued that this was clear and overwhelming
evidence that Iraq indeed possessed weapons of maths instruction.<<<<<<<

We took the camera out with us today for the dog's run. We've been seeing camels, a herd of about 30 or so, with babies, and wanted to get some on video. Today was the first
'absofuckinglutely gorgeous day' ,to quote Master, in a long time. Too long, I say. It was a good idea. The battery is dead. Doesn't do much good to take the camera out if the batteries don't work. It was ok, though, we didn't see any camels. Maybe they were all camelflaged. My joke.

Saw two 53s and a 46. Helicopters for those uniformed. We have decided to stay way way out of the way of military going south from the north. They may be sleep deprived, so we give them a wide berth. I think we shocked one young soldier. He was sitting in the back of a Humvee with the top down. I didn't know they were convertibles. I waved and Max and I held out the small American flag I carry in the car at all times. I don't think he expected to see a big-eared dog biting at the wind and an old woman riding in a Volvo. But he did, not only that, but we passed the convoy and then passed it again because we stopped to get gas. Not only did we pass them twice, but then we got behind them again and had to follow them for a couple of kilometers. I hope they weren't nervous. I keep looking for the neighbor boy from when the kids were little, but I haven't seen him yet.

In the paper today we were told the kindergartens, elementary and middle schools will remain closed. The high schools and university and colleges will be open beginning Saturday. I still have no good feel for how many students we will have. I am prepared for my class. I hope the others are also.

We worked outside this early afternoon. With all the sandstorms the patio was filthy. It is covered with astro turf so we took the hose and some tide out along with the shop wet/dry vac, a scrub brush and the regular vacuum and had at it. The dog was so silly. He was having a ball running and slipping and sliding on the wet astro turf. Then he decided he wanted a drink of water and began chasing the spray from the hose. Doofus dog. To calm him down I gave him an ice cube to play with. He thinks ice cubes are a neat treat. Doofus dog.

I'm about crazy now. I've just talked to Mother and gotten a truck load of not good news. Family problems, and of course, I'm not there. My family, my son, my daughter. And I'm not there to help. I feel guilty about this. I feel guilty about having my sister be the main person responsible for Mother. I feel guilty about her having to step in with my daughter. I feel guilty about my granddaughter's having a seizure this morning and she isn't even my granddaughter by blood. Gee whiz, I don't know what the fuck else could happen….oh, maybe weapon of mass destruction could fall on my clean patio tonight while I sleep. That would work.,
