jdmkleinThe sand storm that was in Iraq yesterday? It hit here about 7:15 this morning. Along with it came a migraine headache. I not felt well all day. There was no sun, but what light there was, made my head hurt even more.
Along with that I have been trying to figure out how to make classes work on Saturday, despite the fact that I expect many of our students will stay away. And one of the teachers is complaining about teaching late in afternoon. I have been trying to figure out how to deal with her class and mine, which both run late, but I don’t need her calling and adding to the stress. I used the headache as an excuse not to go into it with her. Also have to figure out how to get students to the shelter when the sirens go off, without going outside and across the street which is where the nearest one is. This job is not much fun anymore.
I hate the thought of spending 90 minutes on the road, going through checkpoints for no classes. I keep hoping the Ministry of Education gets its head out of its butt and decides that it is too soon to open. Most businesses aren’t requiring their female employees to come to work, and I know that the girls in our faculty won’t be coming to class. Since the faculty is at least 90% female, it will be difficult to hold class. I am making the decision now, if there are fewer than 50% of the students in the class, the class cannot be held. The other 50% will get too far behind. We may be teaching into the summer. Now I’m getting email from teachers suggesting we have warning drills for our students. I had already thought of that, but if I say this to them they will 1) be pissed that I haven’t let them in on the plan, or 2) not believe me and talk among themselves about how I steal their ideas. I have learned to just keep my mouth shut and let them think whatever they want.
Kelly, have you been to the new homeland security depot? It has attack helicopters and hmvees...see I can even keep my sense of humor.
