jdmkleinToday was full of craziness. i called and requested open-ended emergency exit visas for the teachers. No problem there. They came by noon. Two teachers will be gone tomorrow. Another will leave on Thursday. If the university doesn't close soon we may not be able to teach for lack of teachers. Students are leaving too, going back to be with their parents and families.
Teachers coming in all day long asking questions i can't answer and then getting snippy because of it. i thought i was doing good to maintain my cool while all others were losing theirs. The secretary told me today she is basing her feelings on me. If i get nervous she said she will too. She and her family don't intend to leave, but if i do, she may rethink. i spoke with the assistant admin about a gazillion times today about the visas. i don't know how he maintains his calm.
It wasn't all crazy today. One of my former students came by to see me. She said something that all teachers love to hear. She said i was one of the turning points in her life. i helped her by more than being her teacher. Being willing to listen to her and being non-judgemental were important to her too. She comes by to see me every now and then. i like that. And my saudi ex-student came by and asked if i wanted to become his adopted mother so he could take me to Saudi if the going got rough here. That made me smile. Even moreso because when i got him as a student he could barely speak. Being able to tell a joke in a foreign language or whatever that is that he did, is an amazing thing because humor is so cultural.
Had a talk with Nasar today about summer school. i think we have it all straightened out. Unless of course the war changes everything.
