jdmkleinMy sister is worrying about being 'the mother of the bride' at the end of this month. i don't understand the worry. She isn't the mother. She isn't even the step mother. She's married to the adoptive father. There will be three fathers of the bride. People in Texas sure do things crazy. She has excellent taste in clothes. She looks good in clothes, i don't understand her worry. Her husband says she looks good, why can't she just believe him? And, who is she trying to impress? And more importantly WHY? These are people she will never see again with the exception of the girl and her husband, but she has been married already once, so who's to say they would even make a trip up north to see her dad. People worry over the strangest things. i just don't get it.
i read in the paper today now that the government schools may be closing. Some othe ex-pats, other nationalities are saying the Americans have started a snowball of fear because of the authorized departure. i will check with the faculty secretary tomorrow to see if he knows anyhing about the university. Some colleges started classes yesterday. i don't expect the school will close but who knows? Americans are getting it from both sides now. The fear of war with iraq and what Saddam will do and the fear of reprisal from fundamentalist crazies. i've decided i'm taking the crass path today. More people have died in space shuttle accidents in the past three months than have been killed by extremist muslims. Hell, more people have probably died in traffic accidents today in Kuwait than have been killed by extremists in the past three months.
There were Kuwait Special forces across the street from our building all day yesterday. Men with guns. Keeping people off the beach. One idiot tried, but before the truck got 50 meters from the gate, the special forces guys had their guns pointed at him and their truck blocking him. He had to get out of the car and produce his papers. Two special forces men had their 47s trained at his head. Everything apparently was in oder, they let him go, and man did he go, fast.
Saddam says he will use suicide squads. If America uses Kuwait as a launchpad. And now there is some concern of female terrorists. It is still not time for me to leave
Whatever happens will happen between now and the end of March i feel.There are no seats on any Kuwait Airways flights out of this country. i don't know for how long. If i leave it will probably be in a car through Saudi. The embassy people have said that Saudi would probably open it's borders with no questions if push comes to shove with Iraq. Women would probably be allowed to pass through the border and be in Saudi without male accompaniment. If we go in a caravan of other cars.
The country is setting up for Martial Law. That will make me feel safer. Curfews at night. i don't go out much at night any more anyway. Finally, i am getting my wish, i may be able to become a hermit.
