In the grand scheme of things, yesterday was designated not a good day for me.

It started out all well and good, and i even had a former student stop in to say "Hey!" i love it when that happens. But the trip home was like a chapter out of a horror story.

1) Off campus, safely. The last good thing on the drive home.

2) Onto the 60, a tractor and trailer jackknifed blocking all four lanes south bound traffic at the height of rush hour. The driver survived, but part of the 48" high concrete median has been pulverized. A 2 hour sit in traffic. Good thing i got gas yesterday morning on my way to work

3) So now it's 3:30. Finally passed the accident site. Get on to the 51 for a nice drive around the airport. Maybe i will see some camels, they always brighten my day. No such luck. A VIP is either arriving or leaving the airport, i never did learn which. Traffic is stopped by the police in all four directions so that whomever can get where he/she has to go. Even had helos flying over to make sure there was no terrorist activity. Wouldn't have been terrorists, would have been road ragers anyway.

4) It is now 4:15. Thinking i had beat the odds and survived the trip, i decided to take Gulf Road home. No camels at the airport, so a nice ride along the sea coast will calm my nerves. Smoothe sailing. The 40 minute trip home has now taken 2 and 1/2 hours. i notice there is a new bread store opening soon. That's a plus. i get to Al Leiah and Galeiah towers, and find a check point. When Master is in the car, He just waves one of His several get out of checkpoints free cards and the police just motion Him on through. Master wasn't with me. Drat. Now where did i put my civil ID? And oh, shoot, my Iowa driver's license isn't the one he really wants to see. The officer motions me over to the side of the road so as to let other, better prepared drivers on through. Another 15 minutes.

5) i can see the apartment complex now. i am almost safely home. Thinking about poor Maxie and the 'take me out NOW' doggie dance he must be doing. i turn the last corner, straight shot to the car park. Pop! Whoosh! Ka-thump ka-thump ka-thump. Something in the road disagreed with the right rear tire. Not thinking clearly i drove the car into the car park. When i got up to the apartment i realized i should have just driven it to the tire shop right near the complex. The shop doesn't sell tires, but the man could have changed the flat for me. Drat1

6) Take dog out for a potty walk. He sees another dog in his territory and jerks his lead, wrenches my knewee, i'm in pain.

7) Dog back upstairs, take bike down. Hop on bike and pedal my ass down to the tire shop. He speaks no English i have no idea what language i don't speak in order to communicate with him. Sign language. He follows me to the car park and changes the tire.

8) He leaves. I go to the elevator to take the bike back up to the apartment, and get money to take to pay him. The elevator has blown a circuit.

9) Up one flight of steps, agony. The worker flips the breaker. Down to get my bike, Up to the apartment, Down to the car.

10) Pay the first man, go to the tire buying place. One new tire please. Oh, yes, i see, ok, Two new tires please. Balanced please, all four. And allign the front end.

It is now 7 pm.

11) Max goes out for a city run. Beautiful night for a city run. i enjoy watching him.

somewhere in there i ate dinner, talked to number one daughter, talked with Mother. Waved at Master as He was on and off line.

That was one expensive flat tire.

Emerson better not have any more problems, is all i have to say.
