This has been rolling around in my head since all of the inappropriate sexual harassment and abuse charges have taken the U.S. and internet by storm.
There is no correct time when abuse or harassment is acceptable. I agree with that 100%. And every harasser and abuser should be given their day in court as should those who accuse others of such things.
Women must, however take some blame for the actions of men. I am not in any way suggesting that women are skanks or sluts for dressing in ways that are provocative to men. I mean that we women share the blame because it has gone on so long.
Many of the accused, I believe, Like Senator Franken have placed a hand on a butt and squeezed it with no thought at all about the other person’s feelings. I believe an action like this is no different than a mother putting her hand out across the chest of an adult rider in the front seat of a car that has abruptly had to stop. It is instinctual. Mothers have always done it. But let me say that when the person sitting in the next seat is an adult, the mother quickly hears about the nonsense of the arm throwing action.
Men put a hand on a woman’s butt and even may give it a squeeze with no thought at all of the action. It is as natural to them as the mother trying to protect the passenger in the seat next to her. The problem arises when the person who has gotten the ‘butt squeeze’ says nothing about it right then and there. If a child is allowed to have a cookie anytime, how is the child ever going to learn the consequences of cookies all the time?
