Max may have to go. He has bitten four people in the complex. Tonight he got the latest victim. He startles easily when we are in the elevator. Tonight when we were coming back from his run, the door opened on the ground floor and the man made to step inside. Max lunged at him and got him in the hand. i thought the man was going to kill someone. He stood outside the elevator with his fists clenched and hatred in his face. His wife screamed, which caused the dog to lunge out again, but Master had a tight hold on his lead and collar.

When we got to the apartment i called the couple to apologize. The wife said Max had bitten her husband and it was quite bad. i had visions of a deep gash requiring stitches. It was only a puncture wound. i'm not making light of the incident. The man was hurt and a puncture wound can be dangerous, i know, but she made it sound as if his arm was nearly off. i took Max's vaccination record down to show them that at least there was not that to worry about. And Master offered to pay for any medical expenses. The man was ok about it after he calmed down, but i am worried.

We can't get Max to training until September, and he is just too big and strong for me (or Master for that matter) to handle. i don't want to become cruel to the dog because i can't handle him. We may have to take him to the vets and ask for them to find him a new home or put him down. Everytime i think about this i cry. He is a good dog, and intelligent and only reacting as an animal would in the given situation. But the apartment complex is full, and there are children. We have to use the elevator. i would be sick if Max went after a child in a startle response.
