Feb. 15th, 2004 10:02 pmToday was the first day of my class this semester. i think it is going to be a killer class. There are 30 students on the roster, but i think two have dropped. Today was the last day to drop/add a class, so if the other 11 who didn't come today, don't come on Wednesday i'll take some of Daniel's students to take a load off his back. Very odd, this class, i had 9 boys today.
We did an ice breaker activity. i asked them to write what they were most afraid of about this course. Many said not getting a good grade. Some said they weren't good writers, others said they had grammer problems. No names on the papers, i collected them and tried to ease their fears. One said he/she didn't like 250 English. i think i know who. Could almost tell by the attitude in the chair. i explained it was one of the necessary evils. They have to pass this course to graduate.
One, boy, i'm sure, signed himself 'Da boss'. i think i know which one. i think he will do well. If it is the one i suspect, he stayed after to talk about the first assignment. i have one Saudi boy. Poor guy, he has hung on for four semesters, passing each semester, but barely. He is a nice kid, and a hard worker i think, but this will be a difficult semester for him. i have another boy who started last semester but dropped because he couldn't keep up with the work load. He requested me as his teacher. They don't have to do that, and i don't know why he did. Danie's is definitely an easier going class. i expect good work from my students and won't except anything but their best. Daniel lets them slide a bit. Perhaps that will change this semester, now that he has one semester under his belt. He dressed up a bit more today than in the fall. Oxford shirt instead of polo. Time will tell.
i have a slight crush on two boys already. Oh, if only i were 12 years younger than my daughter.
The girls are going to be a fun bunch. i have only one who covers completely but i can tell by her eyes, they smile, she will be fun. i only have a feel for one of the girls as to how well she will do, and i expect her to do fine. i will have to have a bit more time to read them. i think i had two of the girls in summer school last year. Both passed, one a bit better than the other. i do believe this will be a kick ass class. Now if i can only learn to pace myself so i'm not dead by 3 with 1hr. 45 min to go. That will come.
Tonight i am paying for how great i felt all day. There is not one part of my body that does not ache.

i can't stop looking at them, i think they are so neat. This site is temporary until we can get with the university webmaster to link to the university and faculty websites.

The research is basic, minimal at best, and barely valid because of the small sample sizes, but this is their very first venture into academic writing, and i am mighty darned proud of them.
Master took doggomyletti to the vet this afternoon. A woman, perhaps Spanish, He thought. She walked into the room, stuck her hand out for Max to sniff and he was putty in her hands. When the tech came in to get him up on the table, Max sensed his fear, and nipped at him. Ahh, well, he has won a friend in the vet. She thinks he picked up a bacteria. So now he's on drugs. Don't think we will be using that kennel again to board him. Two times there, and two times sick. That's batting 1000 and in this case that's not good stats.
