There was another incident here today. Two American civilians were shot, one killed. It appears they were ambushed. The police found 30 shell casings and said the SUV had 24 holes in it. The survivor was wounded in the leg and shoulder. He was driving. My heart fell to my feet when Jamal told us in the meeting. i couldn't get the meeting down fast enough. The first thing i did when i got back to my office is call Master. He answered the phone.

i realized then, that if anything ever happens to Him, i will be one of the last to know. His family in the states will be notified before me. Unless one of the men who work with him has the presence of mind to call me. He works with only two other Americans, the soldiers and other civilians, the TCNs don't know we are together. There has to be some change made. i have to be put on His emergency notification list.

There is a rumor, i don't believe it, that the schools won't open again in February. This is semester break time. It seems the MOE is concerned about teachers not returning after break. i believe it is wishful thinking on some teacher's part. If they don't come back, they don't get paid. Now, if i don't leave the country and the schools close, i would get paid, because i was here to work. i'm liking this a bit more.

The new Brits are so negative. Working with them on this new book project is becoming painful. They don't like what is being done, or how, or why, but offer no suggestions as to how to make it better. One of them is going to work on the second unit during break. He is going to be in the UK. He wants the pieces emailed to him, but he doesn't want the stuff in dribs and drabs. i suggested he give us a date, he said he didn't care as long as it wasn't too late. i suggested Feb. 1, and he said that was too late. i said tell us when. He hemmed and hawed. That is passive/aggressive in action in my mind. Why couldn't he just say hey! how about by Jan. 26 or something like that? Sheesh!

An interesting thought. The W wants Saddam out of power in Iraq. How do we know he is still in Iraq? He has any number of doubles to stand in for him in public places. What's to say he hasn't takend over the persona of one of his doubles? Maybe he is living it up on the Riveria.

Iraq is the only country in the world, so i am told, that has more of its citizens living outside the country than in. Apparently over 80% of the Iraqi nationals live in other countries, some along the gulf coast, a good number in Russia, who'd of thought that, and the rest in other countries of the world. Even Iran, which also has a repressive government has more of its citizens in the country than out. And Saddam, if that who is stll in the country, says the the Americans will die at the gates of Baghdad. The one million people still in the country will open the gates and beg the military to come in.

Maybe Saddam will take up Moamar's invite and go live in Libya for the rest of his life as an exile.
