Last night Master set up my laptop on the patio and had at it while i laid on the swing and read, and Max pooched around. Lovely. i couldn't stop looking at the area. i felt as if i were in a hut on a beach someplace. Only the hut had electricity. The moon was so bright i had trouble seeing the stars. Now that we have it finished, i really must get my telescope set up.

This evening we went on a picnic in the desert. This wasn't just the normal run-of-the-mill picnic. Yesterday we bought some oilcloth to cover a card table that was badly damaged by life. We got a red and white checkerboard tablecloth print. The recovering isn't perfect, but surely good enough as a picnic table to be left in the trunk of the car for nights when we just want to eat out in the desert. Master painted the frame white. i found some red plastic plates and cups and paper napkins. i made a nice salad with some of all of the fresh veggies in the fridge, then on the way out to run the dog we stopped and got a dinar chicken.

On the run today we got this close to a couple of camel herds.

It was some trick to keep Max on the other side of the car long enough for me to take the pictures.

After Max's run, we drove into the desert a bit further, parked the car and Master and i walked for 30 minutes. We only did a little over a kilometer, and by just about anybody's standards that is no record breaker, but the fact that i could actually walk that distance all in one jaunt is something only this side of extraordinary. i haven't been able to walk that far with as little pain as i had today for years. i mean years. i'm sure it helped some to have a walking stick. Uncle Freddy always said three legs were better than two when it came to walking, but still in all, i'm pretty darned amazed that i did it, and can still walk tonight. Tomorrow we are going to shoot for 35 minutes. Of course Max out ran us both, but he has four legs.

When we got to the car Master got out the table and chairs, i got out the picnic basket. We had a very intimate picnic, just Max and Master and i and 4,896 flies. We figured out how to enjoy the meal without letting the flies get to us and watched the sun go down and the moon come up.

Master had intended a little bit of desert torture, but there was too much traffic, so that will have to be postponed until the temps get warmer. The picnic was a success, even with the uninvited flying guests and a great way to end a a very lovely weekend.

Mother may be coming home from the hospital today, Iowa time. i don't know that for certain, but Sarah thought. i have not yet heard of the results of all the testing, but she has sounded better and stronger each time i have called her. There is a spot on her thyroid that the docs want to look at a bit more closely but when i asked her about it she said when she heard 'long needle' she stopped listening. The one thing they all seem to agree on is that it is not her heart that was causing the shortness of breath. i wish Auntie Nurse would send me an update already. But this is good news and her spirits are good, and that's important.

On a less happy note:
What i read BLI today made my stomach hurt.
