the lights of Kuwait

jdmkleinWe took shau dog out early today so we could go out for dinner early so we could take some pictures of Kuwait dressed up for its National Day and Liberation Day. i hope Master gets the photos downloaded soon.
Some of the decorative lights on the taller buildings are amazing. There are even decorated homes. They put me in mind of Christmas in Iowa, only with no cold weather or snow. However, i am on the lookout for the person who is living in Kuwait who made the comment about the bad weather being over. The past two days have been the coldest this season. And windy, and blowing sand. Argh! Why do people insist on tempting the fates?
Tomorrow we are going to Jahra, home of the scrap yard strip mall. We have little things to get for each car. Maybe i can convince Master that a doughnut would be an appropriate breakfast for such a trip. Hmmmm, i've been bad all week in that department. i may as well finish up the weekend, and make a newn start on Saturday.
Was in the office longer today than i had anticipated. But, i have all my work done and am ready for a norming session on Saturday. My first papers have averaged out to about 77%. i hope Daniel has been a bit tougher on his students this year than last. He has given me a paper he wrote for a conference on care theory. i believe it has merit, but i don't believe one needs to be a bleeding heart.
i have had two students tell me they were afraid to be in my class at the beginning of the semester, but now they think they will have a good class. i told them i would make them work hard, but i will be there for them every step of the way. We have some killer papers going this semester. One boy is going to write on the availability of AIDS education in Kuwait. He even believes students in jr. high school should be given information. I wonder if his parents know this is his topic? Many people here still believe the disease is contracted by sitting on toilet seats. (VEIL, the following may be too much info) Therefore, if the toilet isn't a squatter in a public restroom, i have seen shoeprints on the porcelain bowl.
Max is being silly tonight. He's playing catch with himself and a tennis ball. On his run today, he got distracted and stopped to play for a bit. We didn't notice and continued the run. By the time we realized he wasn't following, we were quite far away from him. When he finally came up for air, he didn't see us and began searching all the cars. i do believe he was a bit distraught. The search was methodical, how do dogs process, he was working his way back toward the apartment. He was one happy puppy when he finally spotted the car. He stayed right beside us the rest of the run.
He draws such attention when we take him out. Today a car followed us for nearly half the run. Finally the driver overtook us and wanted to know what kind of dog he is. He said he once had a dog, and when he had to get rid of it, he cried. He thinks Max is beautiful. He doesn't realize how easy it would be for him to talk us out of the dog. JOKING. He is turning into a very nice animal. Silly than a loon, but a nice, loving pet.
