The trip was uneventful until we got to Amsterdam. The plane left Kuwait nearly on time and the flight was good. We got to Amsterdam and ready to board the plane for Frankfurt, and the flight disappeared. Weather caused it to be cancelled. We were put on another flight for four hours later, and it was delayed again because of weather. Instead of getting into Frankfurt at 11 in the morning, we arrived about 3:30 in the afternoon. By the time we got the car, it was after 4:30 and by the time we got out of the airport it was after 5. More on that one later.

We drove about 2 hours the first night and stayed in a hotel somplace. Yesterday we drove through the Harz Mountain area. We wanted to take a steam train ride. We didn't because of the snow. The tracks were snowed over. We also didn't get to go through a castle, either. Even though the guidebook said it was open the gates said closed. We got lost in the center of the city of Wernergerode. Not actually lost, but trapped. The city is old, the streets are narrow and one way, and we couldn't find our way out. It was a fun time. We also got up close and personal with a snow bank. We were up in the mountains in a village that had just received about a 47' snowfall. We were going slowly down a village road, but not slowly enough. Master wisely took the snow bank over the back end of the car in front of us. Four very nice German men pushed us out and we continued our adventure in the snow. We drove on roads that had snow banks higher than the car. The scenery was beautiful. We were in a forest as well as in the mountains. Some of the roads were still snow covered, giving us plenty of time for pictures, because we could only go about 30km/h.

We spent the night on the third floor of a guesthouse. Very nice room, small but clean and cozy. We had a great meal, but then anything consisting of pork and beer is good in my book. Pork and beer are on the menu everyday, we have decided. Today we are on the way to visit my cousin. The autobahn is good, speedy, but good. The weather is not too bad, if it weren't for the wind. It cuts right through. Can't find a good station on the radio, if we had known the car was going to have a cd player, we could have packed better. Gas is about 4$ a gallon, a far cry from the $.65/gallon we normally pay.
