jdmkleinIt has been a good day. It is still too recent for me to write about coherently. i hurt and i am exhausted but the tired and pain are worth it. We made the holiday brighter for 10 strangers, and they made my day nearly perfect.
It is a joy to give pleasure to others and while i didn't get a chance to talk with them all, i did watch and could see the pleasant time they were having. For them it wasn't as good as home, but it was much much better than in a tent in a sand storm in the desert. i think they enjoyed themselves. They made themselves at home and were comfortable i think.
We went with plastic plates and utensils and cups, and Master thinks that helped the comfort level. We were very low key and casual, so they didn't feel out of place. Some of them were here in 90 so Master and they shared stories. One was on the same ship as our neighbor at the same time, so they swapped stories. The girls were happy there were children. And the kids loved being the stars of the show. We had only one small girl, and she made it a point to sit on every soldier's lap. She had them all eating out of the palm of her hand.
They got to meet a Kuwaiti couple. Granted Suhare and Ahmed are not the normal run of the mill example of Kuwaiti couples, and that's ok. The soldiers left with a good feeling about the people of the country they are in. This was a first for most of them, they have had no chance to be off the base, therefore no chance to meet any Kuwaitis.
It has been a good day and it is on its way to becoming a tradition for us. Master is already making plans for next year. He says we will have two groups next year. One on Christmas Eve, and one on Christmas Day. The Christmas Eve group will cook for the Christmas Day group. Sounds like a plan to me.
