i saw two amazing things today. The sky was on fire. There was the most amazing sunset tonight. In Taiwan, there were beautiful sunsets but their beauty was hampered by the fact that they were so pretty because of the pollution in the air. But here, the air is amazingly clear now, because of the rain. There were some high clouds in the sky, not the stratus clouds, is that what they are called? and not the puffy rain clouds, but somewhere in between. They were stretched across the horizon of the sky right where the sun set. It was so beautiful it al most hurt your eyes to look at it. And then of course there sat me, Ms. Never-Has-The-Camera-Nearby. It's beauty would have been lost in the photo anyway.

The second amazing thing was the parade of dhows. Every once in awhile we will see a working dhow out on the water. Today i saw four of them going back into the port after a day on the ocean. i could almost imagine the ancient travelers, the Phonecians making their way across the water with their wares. Of course i have no idea right off the top of my head what they had for wares, but it made a nice vision in my mind.

i also saw a camel in town. You know what they say, a camel in town today, in some groom's tummy tonight. Sometimes i wonder if they don't bring them in just for the tradition, then serve chicken or some other less exotic beast at the feast. Or maybe they cook the camel on the grill and send it over to the bride's tent. Who knows?

i woke up with the migraine back again. i've toughed it out and now it's on its way gone. i guess migraines are like a cold, you can mask the symptoms but you can't get rid of the illness. Of course about the only thing worse than a sick headache would be a weekend for one in the cold dark depths of New Jersey.
